Pounds for Primates

Do you want to get in shape and raise money to improve the lives of captive chimpanzees? Are you externally motivated? Do you want to be held accountable by chimpanzees? Then Pounds for Primates might be the diet plan for you.

Pounds for Primates was an idea hatched by Nick Beatty, a photographer from Vancouver, WA. Nick wanted to lose weight and raise money for the Oregon Primate Rescue in Dallas, Oregon, so that it could continue its work of facilitating the rescue, adoption, and long-term care of abandoned pet and ex-research monkeys. We caught wind of what he was doing and loved the idea--one of our main goals is to collaborate with others who are interested in helping primates, and this seemed like a possible match made in heaven. So we gave him a call and asked if we could join him.

This is How It Works

The weight-loser sets a weight loss goal.  The donor determines the dollar amount he or she wants to pledge per pound lost.  (For example, 20 lb weight loss at a $1.00 per pledge equals a $20.00 donation.)

At the end of the fundraising period, that pledge total is calculated based on how much weight the person lost and the money is then donated to CSNW.

Our first group of weight-losers began in June of 2007 and will complete their efforts to reach their weight-loss and fundraising goals by November 2007.

If you are interested in gaining funds for us and losing Pounds for Primates, let us know. We will get you all set up and help you form a team and create a web page, and give you lots of support.

If you are interested in participating either as a participant or a donor, please contact us.
