Today we honor David John Parkinson

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

Today is sponsored by Margaret Parkinson and Karen Creason in honor of Margaret’s beloved brother David John Parkinson, who died on December 11th in Margaret and David’s native New Zealand.  Margaret and Karen are some of the warmest people you could ever hope to meet.  They’re chimp house volunteers and long-time supporters whose love for the chimpanzees is obvious to anyone who meets them (and it’s reciprocated – the chimps adore them!).  They had this to say about David and why they chose to sponsor a day in his name:

“David helped Margaret feel cared for all her life and we want [the Cle Elum Seven] to feel cared for in his honor.”

B’s day

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Burrito’s birthday is just a week away! Let’s make Mr. B’s-day super great. Find out how you can become Burrito’s Pal, or Sponsor his B-day! His favorite thing in the world is food—of all kinds. Here’s a few photos of B’s cute food face:

And we can never forget Burrito’s pumpkin head from this year’s Halloween party:

For Julie and Rob Sweet from Vern and Jean Bengston

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

Vern and Jean Bengston have sponsored today in honor of Julie and Rob Sweet. The chimpanzees are currently enjoying breakfast and excitedly waiting for us to finish cleaning the playroom so today’s party can begin! We’re so grateful to everyone who donates so we can continue to provide the chimps with everything they deserve.

Here’s Negra enjoying last year’s festivities:

Happy Birthday Pam Lehnert!

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

Today is Pam Lehnert’s birthday and her friend Jill honored Pam with a Sponsor-a-Day as a birthday gift. Since Pam bought this chair for Jamie (and the other chimps, of course), I’m bring back the first photo we got of Jamie sitting in her hand chair.

I really don’t know what I would do without Pam’s help with our event fundraisers, so I try to celebrate Pam Lehnert everyday, particularly leading up to the auction.

Happy day to you Pam! And thank you Jill for sponsoring this day!

Happy Birthday, Anne Roberson!

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Mary Ann Baltich has sponsored this day of sanctuary in honor of Anne Roberson’s birthday.  It’s a fitting gift for someone who generously supports the chimps monthly through our Chimpanzee Pal program (Anne sponsors Annie).  Mary Ann, Annie, and all of us at CSNW wish you the happiest of birthdays, Anne!

Here’s Annie celebrating her own birthday a few weeks ago:

Happy Birthday to Annie from Marcia Douthwaite!

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

Marcia has sponsored today in celebration of Annie’s 37th birthday (we’re gearing up for the party right now!).  Marcia is a regular blog reader, and a sweet and devoted supporter of the Cle Elum Seven.  She even sponsors Annie and her best friend Missy through our Chimpanzee Pal program.  Thanks, Marcia, for helping us give Annie and her friends the celebration they deserve!

Here’s the gorgeous birthday girl:

Happy Birthday to Richard and Foxie

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

Supporter Dawn Killen-Courtney has sponsored today in joint celebration of two very special birthdays: Foxie’s, which we celebrated in grand style a few days ago (see video of the party here), and Dawn’s husband Richard’s, which is today. Dawn and Foxie happen to have a lot in common: they’re both troll doll aficionados! Dawn’s even written books about trolls.  While many of our supporters learn a lot about trolls after learning of Foxie’s love for them, it happened the other way around for Dawn.  It was discovering that a chimpanzee shared her passion that led Dawn to CSNW.  We (and Foxie) are so glad you found us, Dawn.

Here’s Foxie loving on one of her new trolls at her party:

A very happy birthday to Foxie and Richard from Dawn!

Mop Heads!

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Supporter Tamela sponsored today in honor of the caregivers of CSNW! The following is what she wrote:

Here’s a big pant hoot salute to all the wonderful caregivers and volunteers who wash, scrub, and clean for the chimpanzees. Thank you for all the mundane, exhausting, never ending, backbreaking work you do.

To honor us hard-working, dirty caregivers, she named today “Mop Head Day”. So, 18 mop heads arrived at the sanctuary the other day with tons of little toys tied to them. And in case the mop heads weren’t exciting enough on their own (though I imagine they would have been), mixed nuts were hidden inside various toys. It’s been an interesting, and very comfortable day around here at CSNW.

Thanks so much, Tamela! Pant Hoots to YOU!

Happy Birthday to Jessica Martinson!

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Today’s sponsor-a-day is from Alexis Takasumi in celebration of Jessica Martinson’s Birthday! Jessica does a ton for CSNW! She is not only a chimp house volunteer and serves on the auction committee, but she is also our Board President. She is a very inspirational person with a ton of experience working with animals, including chimpanzees, in a variety of different settings. In her professional life, she is the manager of the Continuing Medical Education department of Swedish, a non-profit health care organization in Seattle. Alexis is one of Jessica’s former employees at Swedish. This is what she had to say:

“I am transitioning into a new position at Swedish and will no longer be working for Jessica in the CME Department. Before I left, I wanted to do something to thank her for being the best boss that I have ever worked for. She has been like a mentor to me and I am really going to miss being a part of her team.”

So not only is she inspirational in the chimp world, but she’s an inspirational boss, too! Happy Birthday, Jessica! Thank you so much for all you do for the Cle Elum Seven!

Happy Anniversary to Dan and Peggy Smith!

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Today’s sponsor-a-day is from Dan and Peggy Smith. Dan and Peggy stopped by the sanctuary Sunday to drop off TONS of produce and super soft blankets for the chimps. Peggy sent me a little note that I wanted to share with you:

“The Cle Elum Seven became a part of our lives since we were “introduced” to them at the Veg-fest in Seattle in 2009. We chose to sponsor Jody after finding out she was the least selected of the group. It is interesting to see each one’s personality develop within the group and become a family unit, and to see Jody slowly start to join in with some of the fun. They have had difficult times and I am so happy to see them laugh and play games, or to just make a bed and rest peacefully. The work being done by the people involved at the sanctuary has made such a big difference in these seven lives. We really appreciate the good work you are doing. That is why the best gift we could think of for our wedding anniversary was to give a gift of food and blankets to our favorite group. We had so much fun shopping for the food, thinking of each chimp and how they would enjoy it. Being able to share with them will make this a very memorable anniversary for us.
Love to all,
Dan & Peggy”

Happy, happy anniversary, Dan and Peggy, and thanks for all you do for Jody and all the Cle Elum Seven! Jody is a very lucky gal to have such great Pals!
