Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010The feature about Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest that aired several months ago on King 5′s Evening Magazine is re-airing TONIGHT. Watch it and tell everyone you know to watch it! The show begins at 7pm and it looks like CSNW will be the second story. Call the NIH today to help the APF chimpanzees
Wednesday, July 28th, 2010Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, just posted a blog entry about the 202 chimpanzees who are slated to be moved from the Alamogordo Primate Facility (APF) to the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research (SFBR).
Wayne expresses it well, “…the time is past for subjecting chimps to painful and unnecessary research, and much of the world is ahead of us in recognizing this fact.”
Hopefully, all of you emailed Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius after reading our blog post yesterday.
Now there’s something else you can do – call the Health and Human Services switchboard at 877-696-6775 and ask them to halt the transfer of these 202 chimpanzees and permanently retire them from research.
(When I called this number a moment ago, I got a series of menu options. I chose to leave a message for the Secretary of Health and Human Services at 202-205-5445. Perhaps during business hours there are humans who answer the phones. Let us know how your phone calls go.)
The chimpanzees cannot speak for themselves. Please speak on their behalf.

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010Chimpanzees are lucky to have some very dedicated young people who are speaking out on their behalf. Nine year old Brandon Wood recently sent the Cle Elum Seven a care package all the way from Florida. Not just any care package, though – the most colorful care package we’ve ever received!
Brandon also recently sent a package to our chimpanzee friends at the Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute and has been raising money for Save the Chimps. It’s inspiring and uplifting to see such dedication and caring in someone so young. Monday, December 14th, 2009Yay!! Big thanks to Barb in Ohio for her generous pledge for the last $$ needed for the window fund. You’ve raised the money needed to replace one of the caged windows with clear chimp-proof glass!

There was a big snowstorm overnight, so winter is here. We’ll keep you updated on the timeline for installing the window. In the meantime, be thinking of Negra’s new view and another window for Jody to lick :)
Foxie adopts a small British boy
Tuesday, December 9th, 2008For two days, Foxie abandoned her trolls for a new doll! We’ve been calling the doll (more of an action figure, really) the small British Boy. He is solid hard plastic, has a top hat, knickers and cloth vest. He’s actually a ring-bearer – he’s holding a pillow with a ring on it in his hand.
His legs and arms move, and the best part – he has eyelids that open and close. Foxie spent a lot of time “grooming” his eyes. She was smitten. She held on to him for at least two days straight. It was adorable. I haven’t worked at the chimp house in a few days, so I don’t know the fate of the British Boy. We’ll let you know. It was difficult to get photos because Foxie is always on the move, but here are a few.
