Annie’s Yoga Poses
Monday, June 28th, 2010Sunny summer weather= playful, happy chimps!
Friday, June 25th, 2010Here’s a pretty cute video I caught yesterday with Missy and Burrito playing. Just before this (and before I had a chance to get the camera) Missy had covered herself (head and all) with a pink blanket, and was chasing Burrito around the playroom. She looked like a pink snuffaluffagus! :)
Jody’s sweet face
Monday, June 21st, 2010Diana took some pretty awesome pictures of Jody cuddling with a giant stuffed dog the other day. You may have seen it on Jody Chimpanzee’s facebook page, but I wanted to share them here. So adorable!
Negra’s Birthday Party
Monday, June 14th, 2010Yesterday was such a wonderful day! Thank you so much to everyone who made the day possible! CSNW has the best supporters and volunteers!
Watch KONG 6/16 or KING 5 tonight!
Wednesday, May 12th, 2010Footage filmed a few weeks ago at the sanctuary about a story focused on the Great Ape Protection Act will air on Seattle’s KONG 6 tonight at 10pm and KING 5 tonight at 11pm. Tune in! We hear the teasers for the story were shown on the stations this morning.
*Note – I messed up! The program is airing on KING 5 and it’s affiliate station, KONG 6/16 in Seattle. Originally, I posted it was airing on KOMO 4, also a great station, but not affiliated with KING 5. Sorry!
Primate Awareness Week
Monday, May 3rd, 2010This week at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, the recently formed student group called PAN (Primate Awareness Network) is hosting Primate Awareness Week. They have a variety of speakers from the primate community speaking about issues in conservation and captivity, including CSNW’s own Sarah Baeckler and JB Mulcahy. Sarah will be discussing her experiences working undercover at a Hollywood entertainment training facility and JB will tell the story of the Cle Elum Seven. If you are in the area, you should check it out!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010Spring is here
Monday, April 5th, 2010The chimpanzees loved their Easter/spring party yesterday. On the menu: baby carrots, tomatoes, mini cucumbers, chow biscuits, nuts, strawberries, blackberries, greens, bread, limes, popcorn, homemade banana chips, oranges, egg rolls, and pomegranate juice. Thanks to friends Robbi, Dick, and Stephanie for making this extravaganza possible!
What Sanctuary Means to Negra
Thursday, March 25th, 2010Yesterday, we sent out a letter from Sarah to e-news subscribers about what sanctuary means for Negra and asking people to contribute to our anniversary fundraising. Share the letter by emailing it to friends, sharing on Facebook, Twitter, Digg, etc. You can do all of that from the letter posted on our site here.
Be sure to sign up for our e-newsletter if you aren’t already. If you think you’ve signed up before and are still not receiving newsletters, email me.
The anniversary fundraising is off to a solid start. I’ve heard from a few more people with great fundraising ideas. I’m very excited! Margaret has already set up a Firstgiving page. She’s giving a card featuring a painting she has done of one of the Cle Elum Seven chimpanzees for donations of just $30. Keep the ideas and support coming and together let’s give Negra a little more sunshine.
Missy’s Day of Play
Monday, March 1st, 2010Missy has been especially playful today (even by Missy standards). Jody and Annie have been good about humoring her (as you’ll see in the video), but even during those moments when no one else is up to a game, Missy has found a way to entertain herself. At various times today, we’ve caught her taking a flying leap from the deck outside wearing a huge playface or playing chase with an invisible partner.
