HALLOWEEN

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

The Halloween / Jamie’s birthday celebration today is perhaps the biggest party we’ve had to date, and the chimpanzees were food grunting and squeaking like they’d happened upon the most exciting food they had ever seen.

Here are a few photos of the festivities:

Jamie (and really everyone) enjoyed the juice in Halloween cups with Halloween straws. Thanks, Stephanie!

Jody decided to spend her time bobbing for apples in the pool we filled with water:

Burrito went around to all of the food buckets and picked out the pomegranates, squeaking the entire time. Thanks for the donation to buy produce for the party, Tamela!

Jamie opened up all of the pinatas, including this boot pinata (thanks, Felicity!), but she left some nuts behind. Here’s Negra getting what was left behind:

Foxie kept going back to this bag and peering inside, but she left it for someone else to open. Jamie finally did and Foxie got the troll doll that was in the bag:

Missy’s Birthday

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Today we celebrated Missy’s 35th Birthday. What a great day! We set the party up first thing this morning and scattered tons of gift bags of goodies from Dick and Robbi, and set up a forage of oranges, peaches, carrots, frozen cantaloupe, and “night bags” (or “breakfast bags”, if you will) of sunflower seeds, which were hidden inside the gift bags. The chimps loved the party and were in excellent moods for the duration of the day!

If you are friends with Missy or any of the Cle Elum Seven chimps on Facebook, you might have seen posts this morning about another birthday fundraiser. It’s not too late to participate- send us a $35 donation and I’ll email a special gift to you and a friend (be sure to put your friend’s email in the gift note section of the donation form). She’s celebrating with her friends, why don’t you celebrate with a friend as well?!

Happy day

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Whether today represents a day to find surprises in little plastic eggs, or a day to test out fancy new boots, or a day to build a giant pink nest, or just a day to enjoy the world, the chimps wish you much happiness in your adventures.

Video to come later or tomorrow!

B-day

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

I think it’s safe to say that Burrito has had a pretty terrific birthday. Since the guy is all about food, we decided to make his day all about food, too. At 8:30 I invited the chimps into the front rooms for breakfast. Everyone came in (though Jamie almost decided against it — she was enjoying watching the greenhouse construction outside from a window in the playroom loft), so volunteer Denice served a tasty breakfast while I started the playroom clean-up. After breakfast, Denice joined me in the playroom to finish up cleaning. By about 10:45, the playroom was clean and blankets, birthday presents from Cle Elum Seven friend Robbi, and a forage of fruit, nuts, and Cheerio necklaces were set out.

While the chimps enjoyed the treats in the playroom, we cleaned the front rooms, and then the real fun began. Today we did away with our usual three-meal-a-day schedule in favor of frequent snacks, so that Burrito could enjoy his favorite time of day (mealtime!) all day long. He was pretty pleased with the idea, as you’ll see in this all-Burrito video (thanks so much to supporter and friend Tamela for the awesome new camera!).

Everyone’s excited about Burrito’s birthday

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

MailChimp changed their login page to wish Burrito a Happy Birthday! Check it out here.

We have cool new benefits for Chimpanzee Pal sponsors, so if you’d like to sponsor Burrito, like MailChimp does, learn more: http://chimpsanctuarynw.org/you_can_help/donate/#ChimpPal

We’ll post all about Burrito’s festivities soon. We decided to make his day all about food (of course!), and his friend Robbi brought some presents too.

Party in the evening

Friday, December 25th, 2009

A few photos of the dinner fun. The Tofurky dinner was a big hit, and of course, everyone loves cranberry sauce. Oh! And shots of punch (see Negra in the third photo below). A day full of food grunting!

Thanksgiving Field Roast Dinner

Friday, November 27th, 2009

As Elizabeth mentioned in yesterday’s blog post, the good people at Field Roast Grain Meat, Co. generously donated some vegan grain meat for the chimp’s Thanksgiving Dinner. Thanks so much Field Roast Grain Meat, Co.! The chimps really enjoyed it!

Missy’s Birthday

Monday, August 17th, 2009

After Jackie’s great video post yesterday of Missy and her socks, I wanted to be sure to let everyone know that we’ll be celebrating Missy’s birthday on August 23rd – less than a week from today! Cle Elum Seven friend Robbi will be delivering some special gift packages, and of course we’ll be giving Missy all of the things she loves (like lots of socks!!) on Sunday. It will be her first birthday celebration at the sanctuary. We do not know her exact day of birth, so, with the help of friends, we chose a day for her celebration. We can’t wait to share her day with you!

Volunteer work party this Saturday!
