Foxie is so cool.

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Foxie has a way of making everything she does look cool, whether it’s eating a carrot, watching TV, or tossing a troll doll head around.

Love Day!

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

The chimp’s had a fantastic Valentine’s Day party! Two of our supporters, Robbi and Dick Brown, brought TONS of fabulous new toys including books, stuffed animals, a plastic shopping cart, new troll dolls, scarves, socks, and a red feather boa. We filled gift bags of various new toys and wrapped the rest in red wrapping paper. Stephanie Perciful, our morning volunteer, brought tons of goodies as well, including food, decorations, and a lips-shaped pinata! The theme of the day- RED! Almost all the food was red- including strawberries, raspberries, red bell peppers, peaches, red pears, plums, apples, and pear juice in cute little bottles Stephanie brought. Elizabeth put a few raspberries and strawberries in decorative muffin cups (beautiful touch!) and put bite sized pieces of fruit in festive bags that we scattered and hung from various places in the playroom. The chimps were SO excited! The playroom was decorated to the max! Thanks so much to Dick, Robbi, Stephanie and Shelley, Margaret, and Karen! You guys put on quite the party! Due to technical difficulties, I was unable to put a video together today, but I’ve posted a sneak peek of the food. I promise more to come tomorrow… :) Happy Valentine’s Day!

Foxie and her adorable toes

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Foxie frequently rubs her toes together. I don’t think we’ve shared any video of this on the blog before. It is one of Foxie’s many endearing habits.

Foxie and Jamie playing with Diana

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

The other day, Diana was playing chase with Foxie when Jamie decided to join in on the fun. Many of the chimps at CSNW will wear clothing when they are feeling playful. In this video, you’ll notice Jamie tying a sarong around her waist just before she invites Diana to chase her.

Foxie- the next “Lord of the Dance”

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Today, I popped in a video of “Lord of the Dance”, donated by one of our many wonderful supporters and volunteers, Stephanie Perciful. We put it on our wishlist in hopes that Negra would enjoy it, because she sometimes enjoys watching her caregivers’ dance. So far Negra hasn’t shown much interest in it and is usually too far away to see it. Foxie on the other hand, seems to thoroughly enjoy it and looks like she kind of wants to join in! Someone recently commented that Foxie may be musically inclined- I think I agree. Thanks, Stephanie! I’d say Foxie seems pretty enriched!

Note- I orginally said that the video was donated by Tamela, but it was actually Stephanie who donated it! So sorry Stephanie and Tamela for the confusion! Guess I am indeed human. :)

Why it’s called enrichment

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Foxie loves troll dolls and seems to always be thinking  of new things to do with them. The video below shows her playing with me this morning. Clearly, the term “enrichment” applies to troll dolls – they certainly do enrich Foxie’s life (and mine as a result).

Troll rescue

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Foxie pulled an Indiana Jones this morning. I was letting the chimps out to the playroom after breakfast, and Foxie was the last one through the door, with her giant troll in tow. Just as I closed the door behind her, she seemed to realize that she had left a few other trolls behind. She wheeled around and looked through the closed door for her missing dolls with a slightly panicked look. I reopened the door, and she flew through the room, gathering all of her trolls with her free hand. She was back out the door before I even finished opening it!

Of course I didn’t catch that on camera, but I did take some photos of Foxie yesterday:

Foxie and Jody

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Here are some pictures I took from the Halloween/Jamie’s Birthday Party. It was a pretty cold day, so most of the party was set up in the Playroom, but it was bright and sunny, which made for nicely lit pictures. The first two are of Foxie. The following pictures show Jody making a nest out of a tutu and various other enrichment. It looked so comfy, I had to take a picture of the finished product. Enjoy!

New view

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

The chimpanzees got to check out the new window today. The window replaced an extra door that went from the playroom to the outdoor area. J.B. still had some work to do on the outdoor area side, so we went out to say hello to the chimps through the window. In the meantime, the Poppoff crew was still hard at work in the mud (but no rain today) getting things ready for the foundation that will be part of the greenhouse structure going over the outdoor area. Workin workin again!

Jamie, of course, was the first to inspect the window

Jody was also very curious

It’s difficult to see, but Jamie and J.B. are “touching” hands through the glass in the photo below

For context – here is a zoomed-out view. The new window is to the left, the chimp door that we use from the playroom to the outdoor area is to the right. The two windows on top are just above the catwalk in the playroom.

Foxie likes the new window too

Many of the chimps watched J.B. working all day. Below is Jamie making sure J.B. is doing a good job (or maybe seeing how things come apart!)

Foxie and Jamie and the Giant Troll

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

In case you were wondering, yes, Foxie is still carrying and protecting her giant troll, whom we have since named “Doris”. Her bright pink hair may be missing, but a mother’s love will never fade…
Today Jamie decided it would be funny to playfully ’steal’ Doris from Foxie, but she made sure Foxie knew it was all in fun. By the way, Jamie must have heard all the comments that she looked good in tutus yesterday!
