Tuesday, August 10th, 2010Here’s a nice example of why you would never want to be bitten by a chimpanzee. It may look like Foxie is threatening to kill her troll doll, but I simply caught her in the middle of a yawn.
This photo also shows how chimpanzees – even tiny chimpanzees like Foxie – are able to fit so much food into their mouths. I have seen Foxie stuff eighteen pieces of monkey chow into her mouth at once (each piece is about the size of a walnut in the shell).
Incidental Enrichment
Friday, August 6th, 2010As you probably saw from yesterday’s blog post, the chimps not only have a new clear view, but also love hanging out on the window sills in the outdoor area! Who new?! There were moments yesterday when there was at least one chimp sitting in each window sill. It looked like a CSNW version of Hollywood Squares. Intentional enrichment is great, but incidental enrichment is even better!

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010Next to Missy, Burrito and Foxie are probably CSNW’s biggest goofs (chimp-wise, anyway) and balancing games of chase between the two of them can be quite a workout. I couldn’t ask for better personal trainers. :)

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010This morning I watched Foxie gather what may have been the largest number of trolls she has ever carried at one time. She had a troll scarf, a sock full of trolls, and probably seven or eight loose trolls. It took her a few minutes just to figure out how she could hold them all at once.
In case you were wondering, she did it by holding the sock and scarf in one hand, a couple trolls in the other hand, one troll in each foot, and one in her mouth.
She seemed quite satisfied with her collection. She spent the rest of the day passing trolls to her caregivers and initiating wild games of chase throughout the sanctuary.
