Chimps and snow and decisions

January 27th, 2013 by Jackie

Even though the chimps have had access to it, it’s been too cold and windy to spend much time out on Young’s Hill lately. But they definitely love having the option! I love that even though we put snow in the playroom and greenhouse almost daily, the chimps sometimes see it as worth it to brave the cold to enjoy a snack on the hill. The other day, the large tub in the greenhouse was filled with snow so that the chimps didn’t have to go out to get it if they didn’t want to, but that didn’t keep everyone inside!

But I guess Foxie and Jamie saw it as more appealing to keep their feet dry and enjoy their snack in the greenhouse.

Annie looks very cold, Missy looks like she has had enough. Foxie and Jamie are smart. I would rather enjoy my snack in doors also. Again…great photos of the chimps. Alway enjoy them.

Love it!! Missy looks like she’s riding a skateboard…or should I say SNOWboard! :)

What is their typical cold tolerance? Does their hair or skin thicken in the winter?

Annie looks like she’s braving the chill on hill just because she can!

Chimps have much thicker skin than we do, and sometimes we’ll find a group of them hanging out on the hill on days that it’s way chillier than our taste! But, overall they don’t go out as frequently when it’s super cold, or they only go out for a little bit and head for the greenhouse to warm up.
