Sunday, June 13th, 2010

We really can’t thank you enough for following the lives of the Cle Elum Seven chimpanzees and helping to fill their new lives with love and happiness.

The last two years have been remarkable.

This video is for you:

I am going through some photos and just found this close-up that Jackie took the other day of Foxie’s eyes. I love it!

$51,671

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

You’ve helped us raise a total of $51,671 for our 2nd Anniversary Fundraising. With less than three days to go until the anniversary of the chimpanzees arrival to sanctuary, we’ve well surpassed our original ultimate goal of $45,000. This means we will replace a total of seven caged windows with chimp-proof glass picture windows, four of those due directly to this fundraising drive! Thank you and high-fives to everyone!!!!!!!!

Today in memory of Paula Wade

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Paula Wade was a good friend to chimpanzees, including the Cle Elum Seven. She followed this blog  from the chimps’ arrival two years ago until her death one year ago on this day.

Paula was part of a network of chimpanzee fans and advocates, and this tribute is from fellow “chimp sister” Catherine Mollyneaux. Paula left behind many friends who cared for her very much.

We are so glad that Paula was a part of the Cle Elum Seven’s lives for their first year in sanctuary, and we thank Catherine for remembering Paula in this most appropriate and touching way.

Jamie then and now

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Sanctuary supporter Tamela just sent me an email with the photos below – Jamie the day she arrived at the sanctuary, and the photo of Jamie that Jackie took yesterday.

These photos side by side brought tears to my eyes – tears of joy for the last two years that we’ve known Jamie at the sanctuary and tears of sadness for the first 30 years of Jamie’s life spent living with an animal trainer then in biomedical research.

I have a feeling that we will all be experiencing this mixed joy and sadness this whole week leading up to June 13, 2010 – the 2nd anniversary of the chimpanzees’ arrival.

Thank you all for helping to make Jamie’s second chance at life possible.

Luau Day

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

A few weeks ago superstar volunteer Stephanie P. proclaimed today to be Luau day, and she wasn’t kidding! She showed up this morning with a car full of supplies! The chimps were besides themselves with excitement watching us set everything up. We had grass skirts, flower leis, pinatas, all kinds of drinks in fun cups, and snacks galore. What a fun day!

Annie & Missy photo on Discover blog

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

Yesterday, Candy alerted me to Sheril Kirshenbaum’s Discover blog asking for photos of kisses. Sheril has a new book coming out soon called The Science of Kissing, which features chimpanzees in a few chapters.

I submitted J.B.’s photo of Annie kissing Missy that we have available in our online store. Sheril liked it so much, she posted it to her blog today with links to our website to find out more about the sanctuary. Check out the blog post, feel free to leave a comment, and browse all of the kissing photos (Praire Dog Snog is pretty cute).
