Jamie and Missy at Play
Tuesday, April 13th, 2010Creative tool use
Monday, April 12th, 2010As we’ve said before, Jamie is always up to something. Yesterday during Playroom cleaning, I heard a banging sound coming from one of the front rooms. As I peaked around the corner, I noticed Jamie had dismantled a plastic jack-in-the-box and found a couple of small metal posts. Using a pair of binoculars as a hammer, she was hammering the metal posts into a plastic needlepoint sheet. The girl is always busy!
Spring grass
Saturday, April 10th, 2010We’ve had some crazy weather here the last few weeks. Today, though, actually felt like Spring. Most of the snow melted and revealed patches of grass, which Annie spotted when the human door to the greenhouse was opened. Annie loves grass, as you know from last spring and summer, so J.B. felt he had to give everyone a taste.
VegFesting
Saturday, April 10th, 2010Come see Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest at VegFest in Seattle now and all weekend! VegFest is a huge event put on by the Vegetarians of Washington. The $8 ticket price is nothing when you see all of the free food samples.
Past board president and chimp house volunteer Mary took the first shift, current board president and chimp house volunteer Jessica took the second shift. Clearly, we have a pretty awesome board of directors. Read about all members on our Board of Directors page.
Jamie the Human (his official title to distinguish him from Jamie the Chimpanzee) is there now until 6pm tonight. Jamie will be back tomorrow morning at the 10:00am opening and I’ll be there all Sunday afternoon. Come say hi and drop a dollar or two in our donation jar.
The First Arrivals
Thursday, April 8th, 2010This morning, Jamie received her first pair of boots in our Chimps’ Choice challenge from volunteer Lisa. Keep ‘em coming!
Thanks, Lisa!
Today in honor of Anthony Lawson
Thursday, April 8th, 2010Happy Birthday Anthony! Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest celebrates your day today, thanks to Julie Poppoff. We wish you the very best from all of your primate friends at the sanctuary.
Chimps’ Choice
Tuesday, April 6th, 2010Wanna make Jamie’s day? Give her some cowboy boots!
Some of our blog readers recently came up with an idea for us to highlight specific items for people to donate. It’s called “Chimps’ Choice”. This month, in honor of her new fascination, we would like to call on our blog readers to donate cowboy boots for Jamie. Not only will you make Jamie’s day, but if you do so within the next month, we will send you a photo of Jamie as a thank you!
As our regular followers most likely know, Jamie cannot seem to get enough cowboy boots! It all started last Halloween/Jamie’s Birthday, when volunteer Stephanie P. brought a pair she found at a Goodwill. She absolutely LOVED them and carried them around all the time, until they finally fell apart. Since then, she’s received a few other pairs and it’s beginning to become apparent to me that her excitement builds a little more with each pair. She got another new pair at the party on Sunday, thus it only seems fitting that more boots would be this month’s “Chimps’ Choice” item! We also put out more of the pink paper, which resulted in an EPIC-sized nest! :)
Fundraising exciting news
Tuesday, April 6th, 2010Check out the just updated fundraising banana! Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Hugh and Jane Ferguson Foundation, the total for our fundraising is up to $13,435!
With 68 days to go, we are $31,565 away from our ultimate goal and three more chimpanzee-proof windows.
Now is the time to really get moving on those fundraising ideas you have in the back of your head and spreading the word about our 2nd Anniversary Fundraising. If you need inspiration, here are a couple of examples of supporters already raising funds:
- Margaret Parkinson’s firstgiving page. Margaret is giving away art cards with prints of the Cle Elum Seven chimpanzees with a $30 donation.
- Tamela’s Art Under Glass Etsy store. Tamela is donating all net proceeds from sales from now until the end of June of all of the handmade jewelry and other items for sale through her Etsy store. She’ll be adding more items, so check back often.
And, just because I had so much fun keeping you in suspense, we do have other exciting news unrelated to the anniversary fundraising. We’ll be sending out a e-newsletter soon with information about the great stuff that is going on. Sign up if you aren’t already.
Spring is here
Monday, April 5th, 2010The chimpanzees loved their Easter/spring party yesterday. On the menu: baby carrots, tomatoes, mini cucumbers, chow biscuits, nuts, strawberries, blackberries, greens, bread, limes, popcorn, homemade banana chips, oranges, egg rolls, and pomegranate juice. Thanks to friends Robbi, Dick, and Stephanie for making this extravaganza possible!
