Since the chimps were relocated I have wondered what they think about snow and what they would call it had they learned ASL. White water cold?
The real experiment would be to see how wild chimps never exposed to cold snow would react. That, of course, will never happen.
As we all know these chimps do not have wild chimp backgrounds and it is possible that some of them did see and experience in snow years before if his/her past was within human family or show environment.
Ha ha, funny Gayle. Yes, I love that last photo (although I still can’t tell these gals apart!) It snowed here today too. Maybe tomorrow I’ll go out and behave a little more like the chimpanzees…
Welcome to Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest's blog! The sanctuary is currently home to seven chimpanzees released from biomedical research. This group, the Cle Elum Seven, arrived at the sanctuary on June 13, 2008. We post photos, stories, videos and more to this blog almost everyday, so visit often! Also, visit us on social networking sites (see links below).
Get your own copy of the book Sanctuary: Year One. Forward by Jane Goodall. Full of amazing photos of the Cle Elum Seven. Shop for all items in the online store.

They do love eating snow! How about some snow cones with Good Belly juice? Bet they would love that!
Foxie looks cold………….
The very last photo of Jamie is very artistic, J.B.
I think they LOVE the snow!
I was thinking the same thing, Candy….and wondering about a painting.
What jumped into my mind when looking at that last photo of Jamie was, “yup – 98% the same DNA.”
:-)
I’m so glad they enjoy the snow! And to see it falling without bars on the window…how fun is that??? Love the photos JB, thanks.
I wonder if they experience brain freeze???
