It is most often not a sign of old age. However, as chimpanzees age, there is a tendency to develop gray hair on the body in general (you can often see this on the lower back). Chimps can also start to go bald, particularly on the top of the head above the brow ridge. Look at photos of Negra for an example :) Bob & Nancy,
