I wonder how the group dynamics are different since Burrito is the only male. Obviously it is calmer than if there were two males conflicting for power.

I would proposition that, if one of the female chimps were to pass away, and the organization decided to continue with the rescue mission by adopting another individual, that another male could be good for socialization. However, though, the adjustment time/effort might be too long/difficult to encompass versus adopting another female.

It seems that, if the floodgates opened on rescuing the 300+ chimps held in New Iberia, LA, that a younger male might end up available. Hopefully they don’t keep breeding the chimps there and this becomes a moot point and no chimps are available for rescue.
