In the interest of full disclosure, I feel I should admit that I didn’t get around to taking any new photos or video today. Here, as a sort of peace offering, is a video from a couple of weeks ago of Missy playing with a ghost she found in the front rooms. Annie tries to get in on the action as well, and Burrito looks on from a distance.
(Okay, it’s not really a ghost — it’s just Jamie.)
Last night, one of our volunteers made peppers stuffed with rice, apples and lime juice for dinner:

Even with temperatures above 80 degrees, Negra insists on napping under a blanket. Behind her, Foxie and Jody muster just enough energy to play tickle laying down.
Negra has a favorite spot in the outdoor area where she can look out over the valley. She often sits there with a blanket covering everything but her face and gazes out. Today she took her raisin board there for some peace and quiet.
Sometimes games of chase are fast and furious, and sometimes they’re… not.

Thanks for helping us celebrate one year of sanctuary life and Negra’s birthday!
One of the most important aspects of sanctuary life is variety. And one of the most exciting times for chimpanzees is mealtime. Our staff and volunteers delight in creating dinners that are always a little different. The food grunts and squeaks that the chimpanzees make are a pretty good reward for the effort, I’d say.
This morning the chimps had some cocktails (virgin, of course) with their grass forage. Diana got some photos:
The chimps are having their dinner outside tonight as I type - quinoa with lilacs and cauliflower. Here are two pics of Jody and Negra enjoying their meal.
