Many of you know that Jamie often eats her dinner with a spoon. Did you know that Jody does too? Tonight, Jody used a spoon in her own special way to eat her oatmeal and applesauce. I love that she looks right into the camera in this clip!

Dinner with Jody
Wednesday, April 8th, 2009Spring!
Tuesday, April 7th, 2009Finally! Here are a few shots of the chimps enjoying the beautiful weather. It’s been right in Negra’s “sweet spot” – between 65 and 75 degrees – so she’s been outside a lot.
We had a forage outside for lunch – lots of broccoli, cauliflower, and peppers. The last photo is of Foxie with a “whimper face”. I’m not sure what she was whimpering about; she probably lost one of her trolls for a moment.

Easter is on the way
Monday, April 6th, 2009A whole crew of people met in Seattle to make some Easter baskets and other fun stuff for the upcoming holiday (see photos below). Robbi is also going to bring some fun stuff by before the big day! If you’d like to donate towards the celebration, we’ll pick up a few extra goodies too. It is going to be one fun party!!

That snazzy chimpsanctuarynw bag with Jody’s image would look good in your wagon too. Check out the online store for the organic tote bags and other great items.
Troll Dreads
Saturday, April 4th, 2009As part of our continued efforts to encourage Foxie to use more varied enrichment — and hopefully one day nest with something soft! — Diana created the ultimate troll hat/wig. As you’ll see in the video, we at CSNW are not above looking silly for the purpose of entertaining the chimps.
P.S. As I was typing this, Diana caught Foxie lying on a blanket in the playroom (which I believe is a first-time occurrence)!
Grooming
Friday, April 3rd, 2009Missy grooming her foot, sporting her trademark “glasses on the back of the neck” style:

Burrito and Foxie were sleeping next to each other on the catwalk when Negra decided she wanted to be groomed. Burrito was happy to oblige:

Calling cards available!
Thursday, April 2nd, 2009You can now support the Cle Elum Seven by giving out calling cards (smaller than a business card) to everyone you meet! You can purchase the cards from our online store. The nominal cost of $1.00 for a pack of 25 plus the shipping fees will cover the costs of printing more and the shipping and handling. So buy lots and give out freely!
To refresh your memory about the awesome calling cards, refer to the post about WIGT Printing’s Valentine’s gift of the cards to the sanctuary. WIGT is located in California, but they can ship out their printing jobs all over, so check them out for your next printing job – they are super friendly and professional.
Below are photos of the cards. Aren’t they great?

Sad news from the chimp world
Wednesday, April 1st, 2009It looks like there’s been another chimp tragedy this week. There’s no such thing as a “pet” chimp. They simply do not belong in unqualified facilities, and this sort of heartbreak will keep happening until there is no more breeding of captive chimps into this cruel trade.
Jamie’s dexterity
Wednesday, April 1st, 2009Jamie LOVES it when we give her a ball point pen. I love her pen ritual – it’s as though she needs to collect a certain shopping list of things before she can begin writing. You can almost see her planning in her head. She’ll take the pen, pause while she scans the play room, and then walk around to collect what she needs. Sometimes it’s a blanket, or a stool, and a certain toy. Today she needed a blanket, an address book, and a scarf with a troll doll attached. There’s been so much talk about how strong chimps can be – but think about the gentle, fine movements required to draw with a pen!
